The plan for the roof !

The plan for the roof !

Above, is the latest architectural renderings of the roof space for Main Street Life. Apart from showing how all the features are gonna look, a cant help but see this rendering represent something alot bigger. From the beginning, property development company Propertuity had a massive list of things they were gonna have in Main Street Life. A list that for some, seemed too big. But im proud to announce that one by one, each item on that list is becoming a reality. Because I live in the building, you would think I would see the progress happen alot slower. But every day, walking out of my apartment, I see something new, a new wall has been plastered, a lift has been painted, an idea has become a reality.

The roof space is really gonna be something quite special. To me, it will be where we all play. Down in the building, the work and collaboration ethic will be the focus. But up on the roof, Im looking forward to meeting the interesting foreigners that will be staying in the 12 Decades. Even in the next few weeks, a troupe of European musicians will be staying there. So in true Main Street Life fashion, we wont have to wait for the dream, its coming right for us!!!

12 Decades preparation Lauren Wallett

12 Decades preparation Lauren Wallett

Lauren Wallett is another of the 12 designers chosen to design a hotel room in the 12 Decades Art Hotel here in Main Street Life.

Lauren’s decade is from 1936 to 1946. Wallet’s been both a performer and director of theatre since she was 9 years old. Having also established an acting school in Johannesburg, Lauren is now focusing her attention on both her hotel room and most importantly the establishment of Malva, a unique concept store located on the ground floor of Main Street Life.

With her discipline and experience of having been involved in theatre, the room will look at the theatre of Johannesburg during the late 1930′s and early 1940′s. A strong influence of western theatre styles prevailed during that time, often diverting the limelight away from the incredible local theatre being produced. The room, looking out to the west, tells this very story, and most significantly, the story of a particular play write operating during that time, who’s incredible story can now be told. watch her first video

12 Decades preparation Kim Lieberman

Artist Kim Lieberman is one of the 12 designers selected to design a room for the 12 Decades Art Hotel here in Main Street Life.

Just to give you a background in case you didn’t know, each designer has been given a specific decade of Johannesburg’s history, with which to theme their room. The designers chosen are all somehow linked or working within the Arts on Main and the greater Maboneng Precinct. Kim Lieberman has her studio inside Arts on Main. So whats really exciting about the 12 Decades will be how each designer would then also bring their own discipline or expertise into theme. So not only will the rooms tell an amazing untold story of what Johannesburg was like at that time, it would also tell the tale of that designers’ industry or scene during that time as well.
