Bands at The Bioscope

Last week, Main Street Life’s ground floor saw a nice buzz of action. Cape Town based improvisers Benguela rolled into town to launch their latest offering Black Southeaster, and chose The Bioscope as their Joburg venue of choice. Alongside them was Joburg favourite and multi disciplinary musical genius João Orecchia who brought along Blk Jks members Mpumi and Tsepang.

Orecchia had devised a program on his computer that synched up his music with a library of images her had collecting over the years. The audience, now fill to the brim, was left in a state existing somewhere between awe and excitement.

The Bioscope opens its doors

The Bioscope opens its doors

Last week saw The Bioscope open up its permanent and exclusive doors here on the ground floor of Main Street Life. The Bioscope is now Johannesburg’s only independent art house and cultural cinema. It started out as screening project at Art on Main in November of 2009, and has grown strength by strength until a permanent space was built housing an HD ready projector, a Blu Ray player, tickets, popcorn, the full deal !!!

All programming goes live on www.thebioscope.co.za first and films screened will become available in select publications and websites as time goes on. Films will be screened almost every night of the week, except on mondays. the films will start at 8pm, and tickets will be R35 except on special events or discount night on tuesday whereby they will be R25.
