Great slide show of 12 Decades

The Times multimedia section recently published this great slideshow of images of the 12 Decades Hotel. The slide show depicts almost all the rooms, showing them from the best angles. If you haven’t checked out 12 Decades for yourself, this quick little video might just be one of the best ways.

Architecture workshop underway

Architecture workshop underway

In case you didn’t know, Main Street Life is structured around a very well thought out set of common area spaces. Every floor is a different creative discipline in its theme, and each floor has two of this large common area spaces on either side. One side is meant for workshop and collaboration, when the other for exhibition.

The 6th Floor is the architecture floor, and Owner and Developer Jonathan Liebmann hasn’t wasted any time in getting these spaces up and running. A two week masterclass in Architecture is currently underway, and the spaces have proven well enough equipped to handle the 40 odd students using the space.

Main Street Life really proves itself to be a residential development in a class of its own when you can come out of your apartment and mix yourself into an environment like this. Some of the top architecture students from around South Africa, and many currently practicing architects, have attended.

Above is work by artist Gordon Froud. This piece entitled Taxi Crash, is currently on display on the exhibition space of the Visual Arts Floor. No picture can do it any amount of justice, as it needs you to stare into it from all angles. I say this because the work, if you haven’t already worked out, is made entirely out of coat hangers!

I have one or two snags for my unit

As this is a new building, its only natural that we encounter some snags (ie problems) with the finishes inside the units. A simple simple system has been set up to combat this. On the parking floor, as you leave the lifts, there is a Snag Book on the table by the security guard. Write down the problems you having in your unit and the date. Leave your contact details, so that the building managers can contact you if they need to get inside you unit.
